Quinn's language skills impress us daily. She's not even two yet, and she can talk in sentences using proper tense and articles. For example, "Get the farmer" turns into "Got the farmer" after the action is completed. The fact she uses "the" and "a" along with her verbs & nouns just thrills me. Plus she still just throws this kind of stuff at us unprompted, and not as the result of direct teaching. Kids are amazing.
She also sings songs fairly successfully. It's more of a mimicking than knowing all of the words exactly, but she can sing "Oh Canada", "the Alphabet Song" and "Twinkle Twinkle" pretty well. She also knows the starts of lots of other songs, mainly as a request to us to sing them.
Counting is coming along nicely. Quinn counts her toys and food pieces and books up to three very well, though she knows her numbers up to 10 when saying them in a row. (Except seven, which she skips). She also understands the concept of "many" and "some" and can say them appropriately.
It's fun to ask her to repeat words after us, since she'll make the attempt now. Even three and four syllable words like "reflection" etc. don't seem to trip her up. Plus with the xmas season upon us, she'll repeat phrases like "Merry Christmas" and "ho ho ho" sounding extremely cute.
